I would say it is from a shot gun roll and when the machine rolled it up and folded the end it left it's mark.

That looks like a tooling mark. Quite uniform. Is that some copper visible from the plating? mcshilling, would a rolling machine be that precise, I know a lathe could. Is it just me, or does the rim look heavy too?
