I recently came across a 2017 P penny and it almost appears proof like the only thing is its missing its copper. Can anyone tell me about this coin. Also my name is Chris and I'm from Washington state

to the forum, Chris! lt seems that there are still copper remnants around the edges, especially the obverse. It would seem that this coin has been subjected to an acidic environment that removed the copper plating from the zinc core.

The copper was covered by a silver coating - zinc, aluminum, mercury or something similar. It it just a re-plated coin.
