Hi. I came across this coin yesterday and was wondering if that could be part of the 4 from the date or a letter from somewhere. Is that even possible? Before I start measuring or investigating further. The 4 looks like it's missing some pieces. It above the P and L. Thanks.

Possibly, an odd shaped plating bubble/blister.

Thanks. I appreciate the time you all give to help. Under the 10x it sure looks like it has edges, but after researching your suggestions, I think you all are right on the "money" with plating issue. Sorry couldn't help it.
