I have finally managed to find a few hours to catch up on some reading and it seems as if everyone is putting out there Top 10 List of coins for 2005. So I thought that it would be interesting to see what the members here think are the top 10 for the year. Be specific and please share why you believe they are top 10 material.

Here is my top 10 list in the order from number 1 to 10.

Now remember that this is just my simple opinion. Do your own research before buying.

1. Patterns. Pick your poison here. All are very undervalued.

2. 1801 Draped Bust Dime Here is a coin that is incredibly rare in the higher grades. Looking for XF and better coins to see the increase in 2005.

3. Proof Morgan Dollars Here is one of the most overlooked areas of collecting.

4. Early Commemoratives Here is another area that is picking up speed quickly. Really can't go wrong here. Just be sure to pick up sharp BU grades of 63 or better.

5. 1839 Seated Bust Half Here is one that I have personally looked into. This coin is extremely hard to find in any condition. Much more than the mintage suggests. A real sleeper.

6. Charlotte and Dahlonga Gold Another chance to pick your poison. All grades and issues are actively sought and only getting hotter. Just make sure they are slabbed. Too heavily counterfeited.

7. Type 2 Gold Dollar This one keeps climing year after year. Really a no brainer.

8. 1811 Half Cent This low mintage year is going to spike in value this year. More collectors are starting to pick up on the early coppers

9. 1795 Large Cent Here is a coin that is so misattributed that ALL collectors should be looking. Not only are they cheap, but if you find that right elusive coin, you could be vacationing some place very nice on this opinion.

10. Civil War - Hard Time Tokens Both are so undervalued that at some point collectors will wake up and smell the coffee. Don't wait until then to add some to your holdings.

Well folks, that is my top 10 list.

What are some sources for Pattern coins? If they were never adopted, I would imagine these are fairly expensive.

The easiest and fastest is the major auction houses or shows. Some can be bought for a few hundred dollars. Considering that some have populations in the single digits...well you get the point.

Here are the 11 upcoming in Baltimore next week.

Most of those are WAY out of range for me but I did see a 1795 LG cent today that was pretty good...I think it was G/VG and was near my limit....
