In the hand, this is probably the most eye appealing coin I have. Certainly nothing special about 1893 with 46m minted. The lighting is a little harsh and at an angle to try and display the details. There is a very minor rim nick at 9 o'clock on the obverse. I do have a question about the "e" in cent, is it possible that die issues could have caused this? Would this quality as red/brown? I've no intention of sending this off for grading, just curious what you all think. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thx, Adam

Harshly Cleaned
It does not qualify for Red Brown.
Did you clean this?

if this is what the coin looks like in hand all of the original surfaces have been removed.
AU details
as a side note there are only two reason to slab a coin. its way too expensive to just grade any coin.
1. you have a rare coin and it should be authenticated 2. you have a coin valued at $150 or and you intend to sell it.
other than that if you plan on keeping it put it in an album or in an air tight holder

Pretty much the same look under natural light outdoors but not direct sunlight. So, presumably chemically stripped. This was in a collection my mom passed along. She kept everything including silent auction bid cards. I pulled out the card curious to see what it was advertised as and what grade they gave it, which was AU+. They gave it a price range of $12-$24 and opening bid of $12. She paid $12.50. John1, I've not looked at varieties at all but I'll have a look and see what I find. Thanks for the link. If I simply have questions about coin condition, altered surfaces etc, is this the correct sub forum or should I post elsewhere? Thanks all for the feedback, I'm learning.
