Can someone help me understand this question.

It appears to me that there are 2009 Silver Eagles out but not issued from the mint (or at least not on sale from their site). I think the proper term for them is bullion.

In speaking with the mint they say anything out now is "fake". That is what the sales girl said. But reputable dealers are selling 2009 coins already.

Is it safe to assume there is bullion issues and mint issues for each year?

Could someone please elaborate?

The bullion Eagles are not directly sold to the public by the Mint and they are usually released through their dealer network the first or second week in January, the investment-grade bullion coins are currently the only 2009 Eagles available. The US Mint website only sells the Uncirculated W Eagles and proofs, neither of which have been released yet.

My guess is they are available. On ebay right now there are 1,004 listings for 2009 SAE's. Hard to believe that they would all be "fakes".

From the US MINT website:

Production of United States Mint American Eagle Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coins has been temporarily suspended because of unprecedented demand for American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins. Currently, all available silver bullion blanks are being allocated to the American Eagle Silver Bullion Coin Program, as the United States Mint is required by Public Law 99-61 to produce these coins "in quantities sufficient to meet public demand . . . ."

The United States Mint will resume the American Eagle Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coin Programs once sufficient inventories of silver bullion blanks can be acquired to meet market demand for all three American Eagle Silver Coin products.

I would find that many fakes hard to believe as well. I guess they need to teach their staff their entire product line.

I would reread what biokemist said! He hit pretty much nailed it. There not fakes there just bullion rounds made by the USmint sold to dealers who sell them to the public

Does the Dansco holder have spots for bullion, unc. and proof strikes for each year?

Then that would propose the next question. Would it be better to wait to see what the Mint is selling them for, or go ahead and buy them from a dealer, or maybe find them on ebay? Any help is greatly appreciated.

try APMEX.com or bulliondirect.com. If you are a high roller then try tulving I think it is. Tulving sells only if you buy a lot I think minimum of 500 ounces in silver. But sometimes they have good prices..I would only use ebay if I was desperate. The Silver on there usually runs out the roof

If it is a product that the Mint sells to the general public, then it is always the least expensive to purchase directly from the Mint- dealers do not get a discount on Mint products so they have to pay the same as you do. The investment-grade bullion Eagles are not directly sold by by the Mint so you will have to purchase them from a secondary source and their price fluctuates with the price of silver.

The American Eagle that is currently available on ebay is the 2009 Bullion Coin and will never be available From the Mint.

Each year since 1986 the Mint sells A bullion Eagle to Registered Dealers Only

Also Starting in 1986 The Mint then sells a Proof Version through there web site to collectors

Starting in 2006 the Mint added an Unc. Version for Collectors (for Sale through their Web site) with a "W" Mint Mark.

Currently or at least through 2008 there were 3 versions available (2008 Bullion, 2008W UNC., and 2008W Proof) for 2009 I don't think anyone knows what is going to happen. But hopefully they will eventually receive enough blanks to make UNC. And proof Versions
