I have this Toonie where the outer rim seems to be missing in sections but where the words Canada 2 Dollars is stamped on the side it seems raised. What may cause this? And of course, can I pay off my mortgage because of its 'incredible' value?

I'm curious on the thoughts of the forum.

Thank you,

Those bumps on the rim are from the edge lettering, when it gets stamped it push's the rim up.

The other side is normal with maybe a couple of slight rim blemishes, but it is what I would expect to see.

The next picture is another shot of the bumpy edge, in case it wasn't clear in my earlier post.

And then a comparison of two toonies. I realize that the bumps are from the edge lettering, but normally I still see a smooth edge, as per below. The one of the left is what I would expect to see.

After further review should the edge lettering be placed at the same location. In order for me to match up the edge lettering I need to have one coin heads up and the other tails up. They are also offset with the striations so that the one coin has the number 2 in the smooth part and the other has the number 2 in the striations. Currently it's the only two toonies I have with the edge lettering, so it's tough to compare.

My 2019 is normal. I do have a couple older 16 serration toonies but thats from 1996,1997 and 2008. Odds are those are normal too, right?
