When you study the examples on PCGS, I realize that they have not educated anyone on how they grade these full steps. I disagree with them often. Then I figured out they are considering the not the raised steps, but the risers on the steps.

Thus I don't waste time on these. (I've a variety collector, not a striking issue collector) Even a contact mark will affect the value of these coins on damage marks on the coins. (Seems like to me the grading companies are the only ones making money on these.)

Good points. Thanks @coop. You definitely make it easier to understand with the pics you explain with arrows & descriptions, and your links you post. Very much appreciated.

I try to make is as simple as possible. If someone asks the same question again, then I dig even deeper to show it a bit more. I hate to give yes/no answers. While the answer is given, the student doesn't know why I stated yes or no. So when I get through, I want everyone to see how I came to that conclusion. (That is the answer they really wanted to know) So that they see, What I see on their coin.

I'm with a lot of other people that thinks it depends on what day you hit the grader on whether or not you hit him on a good day or not.
