Seems like Kookaburra coins gaining popularity internationally as the premiums on them getting higher. On top of that certain years selling 3 times more than others on ebay just minutes from each other even in the uncirculated version.
Sine I have lot of these coins I just wonder if anyone tried to contact Perth Mint to get the correct mintage numbers for all the different Kookaburra coins they have produced since 1990.
Seem like the many number in numismatic books are incorrect, missing, or most just sate the maximum coin number can be produced for certain type regardless how many were actually sold.

Also I collect the 2oz+1oz Kookaburra proof sets. Missing and never seen year 1993, and today I found a website where they say the first year of these sets is 1994. Is this possible? The Mac catalogue clearly says the 1993 2+1 proof sets with 300 sets made.

I collect the 1 oz and my collection starts with the 1990 Kookaburra.- but I do not collect the sets
I will research the set dates
If some one local does not verify with the mint, I will call them.

These are all the 1 and 2 proof kookaburras ever produced. From 1997 the max, limit is a guide.
Looks to me that more American collecting these coins than Australian.
Only 2500 people can have the entire 1 ounce proof collection from 1990-2005, and only 500 for the 2 ounces, but realistically so many have been lost damaged, missing COA, not for sale, that is only a little chance you could make the 2 ounces proof collection as their listing on ebay getting rarer in an alarming rate.

1990, 21,671
1991, 6673 2ounce 5000
1992, 6766 2ounce 5000
1993, 5121 2ounce 3290
1994, 2500 2ounce 500
1995, 3000 2ounce 600
1996, 3370 2ounce 632
1997, 3500 2ounce 650
1998, 2500 2ounce 650
1999, 2500 2ounce 650
2000, 3000 2ounce 750
2001, 5000 2ounce 800
2002, 5000 2ounce 800
2003, 5000 2ounce 800
2004, 5000 2ounce 800
2005, 5000 Last year

The Perth Mint has proved very difficult to get any mintage information from. I tried and found most posts were ignored. Not good.

Hard to understand that since we are talking legal tender here.
What problems they have giving information they are legally obligated to do?

from what I know 300.000 per year and 1990 = 301.500 pieces. The proof were 21671 in 1990 and after that between 2.500 and 6.673 pieces althogh a few years seem to be unknown.

All Australian legal tender coins are produced in terms of an agreement with the Australian Treasury, which receives a royalty or `seigniorage' on each coin sold, and this is $2 million for the year 2008.

Anyone knows if this royalty equals to the face value of the coins?
Is the royalty credited back when coins returned for melting down?
Perth Mint and the Australian Treasury know the mintage information, and unless it is state secret, under the freedom of information act they should be obligated to provide it.
