Found this coin last night while going thru my local bank rolls of lincoln cents.

2001- 50 ore- Norec

I found info on the net - its from Norway- equal to around 1/2 Krone and its the "Star" version.

The Crown is the obverse and the date etc is the reverse.

Value around .40/50 cents US currency?
Any other info is appreciated- nice looking coin. (IMHO)

Interesting find. Btw, Noreg is the Nynorsk (New Norwegian) name for Norway.
The face value is just over 7 cents US. (1 NOK = 0.146077 USD)

It's always been written NORGE and now NOREG - both forms are correct, right?

Yes, in Bokmål (the more common variety of Norwegian) it's "Norge" while in Nynorsk you spell it "Noreg". The current coins from Norway use both spellings:

50 øre and 5 kr: Noreg
1 kr, 10 kr, 20 kr: Norge

That thing on the reverse of the 50 øre coin is a phantasy animal from a portal of Urnes stave church. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urnes_stave_church for more info, and scroll sown to "North portal" to see a photo of the, errm, beast.

Ah--now I see the connection to the Stave church, it's sort of lost that context on the coin.
