I could probably find something about this coin if I knew the denomination, but don't see it or looking at it and don't know it. Tried searching with just 1917 Britt, British, Brittan, and too many results to look through.

This seems like the place I can get some answers. Funny thing is I have no idea where it came from, just mixed in with some coins I had already searched. I mainly stick to U.S. coins.

It looks like a soverign, which is GOLD!

Now we have to find out if it's a half sov or a full sov. A half sov is about the size of a dime and the full one is a about a quarter. Anyways, the melts are around 120 for half and 240 for full.

And just a note, a half sov is 50 pence (half a pound) and a full one is a full pound.

**This is mine, a half sov

Sweeeet! That definitely makes my day.

Looks to be the Full Sov.

Thank you very much for the reply. Where can I learn some more about these coins?

Well, I found it in some coins I thought I had searched already. My grandma and I had started a small collection when I was young. Then when she passed, I recovered the collection.

Since, I have become interested in Lincolns mainly, but have a milder interest in some others I'm not likely to get rid of since they have sentimental value.

I was looking for a 50Pesos coin to show a guy who collects Mexican coins and came across it. I recognized the reverse from an article, and thought it could be gold.

One more thing, anything I should know about long term storage of gold that's much different from other coins?

Well, with all my gold I just have it in paper or archival plastic. Because the unreactiveness (is that a word?) of gold, you can just put them anywhere and they will not tarnish, etc, unless of course its packaging starts to degrade.

Yes, it has to be stored for a long period of time in Egypt.

Thanks Egcollector, definitely up there with my most exciting and favorite finds.

I can't believe it was just sitting there all this time, about a year since I went through them last. I did figure out the roll container I found it in was one I had set a few other unknowns in at the time. I still don't know what some of the others are, so I'll probably have some questions coming up soon.
