This is probably one of the rarer pieces of a collection I inherited, one of the few that has been graded. Photos below. It's a pity the coin is discolored and has some hairline scratches. It's simply not that attractive.

Eventually I will sell this along with most of the collection. Sharing these pictures to learn more about this coin. Appreciate any information and opinions. thanks.

Not sure what you want to know but I can tell you this.
1858 was the only year that Canada produced a 20 cent coin for circulation.
There were over 730,000 struck.
There are 5 varieties in addition to the original.
They are Sterling silver weighing 4.65g.
They were withdrawn from circulation starting in 1885

Thanks @JimmyD. What are the varieties? And, if this coin belonged to one of them, can I assume that NGC would have noted that in the description?

Most of them were returned to be melted down and I have been told that there is about 20% left.

Do an archive search on here for Rob Turner's book(s). His one on just the 1858's is outstanding and has full-page photos of all the varieties. With marriages, there are well over 20. If you are a member of the RCNA, you can get his book from the library there. If not, there may be some for sale somewhere. The Name of the book is "The 1858 Cents of Provincial Canada". It is now in 2 volumes, the second also covering the 1859/8's that were all 1858 dies and handpunched with a 9/8. There is no better book written than his on how Canadian coinage came to be and how they were made, and with all the difficulties that they had. No finer reference anywhere. But there is no section for the 20 cents.

I believe you have to request a variety attribution plus there is a surcharge for it.
NGC will not automatically look for varieties.

This page (https://www.coinsandcanada.com/coin...-cents-1858) shows clear pictures of the five varieites. Alas, mine is the normal (most common) without any errors or abnormal features.
