Thanks, I placed it in the AU range also, with come circulation hits and dings. Not really seeing any signs of cleaning though. No scratches or anything like that.

Not the kind of coin I assoiciate with you with that extensive environmental damage.

yeah - guilty as charged. Finding the extremely old ones in great shape that won't destroy my wallet is hard to find.

Coin looks great to me, congrats on the purchase! I love the qualities of an earlier die state.

Copper coins are cleaned differently than other metals. Classic EAC collectors would use some Blue Ribbon and a horse hair brush to remove any unwanted material on a copper surface. Hairlines would not be visible like a wipe with a cloth.

Perhaps Verdicare or a similar product will remove the remaining substance?

Thanks Jac.

What is 'Blue Ribbon'? I have Verdi-care, I may try putting a drop on it and see if the gunk can come off (but not sure yet). But It may look much better with the junk removed, but I'm afraid I'll wind up with areas of untoned fields.

I may buy a very junky cheap coin and test it on that first. (If I don't happen to have one already.)

Nice chocolate brown color - but the damage (corrosion?) in the fields is quite distracting to my eye.

Not sure if it is corrosion or nit yet, it is raised I'm hoping it is just gunk. It will get a nice long acetone soak to see what softens up and comes off, then maybe verdi-care if necessary.

and thanks Dsk and jbuck.
