Curious softness of strike from shoulder up to neck. May be the lighting, but the "9" doesn't seem well struck up.

Key date important coin. With all the counterfeit coins these days why take the chance if it isn't slabbed? I know that not all coins have the die crack marker below the bust and I'm not seeing one here.

bobby, based on these pictures I'm not convinced. The obverse is a bit blurry, but it seems that there may be a remnant of VDB on the shoulder. Also, the shape of the mint mark is a bit suspect, and it seems that there may be tool marks in the date region.

The shape of the 9 is a bit fatter (like you would expect from a DDO) but there is no listings for a DDO on this year/mint at all. The spacing on the date is consistent and evenly spaced. No sign of the date being modified. Looking at every PCGS image of this coin, none show a fat 9.

but, I'm on the fence with this one.

1) Questionable color - but could be photography.
2) Suspect an old cleaning and retoned.
3) MM is in about the right position but the pic is not good enough for positive ID.
4) Appears to be AU but likely passed off as MS due to die state (EDS).
5) Not a trace of luster in the photos.
6) Great strike and detail, not common in 14D's - adds some suspicion.
