Arrived in the mail yesterday, so if counterfeit I'd like to have a discussion with the auction house ASAP if I've been snookered. Weight is 26.43 g, a bit lower than the nominal 27 g for a mint specimen. Not magnetic.

Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

The mints then had variance. It was 230 year-old frontier machine tech.

I see a tad Machine Doubling, which I've seen before in these.

Half a gram short isn't huge either. You can do a specific gravity test at home to better confirm it is silver.

Member SwamperBob will tell you to track down an XRF to get into the details of the trace metals.

Can you find the edge overlaps?

What is getting your spidey juices flowing that is new news from the auction's photos you bought it from?

I agree with the first comments in general. The coin does not have the look of a typical numismatic forgery made for defrauding a collector. The weight variance is not really an issue in this case for the reasons given (tolerance and wear).

I would suggest a density check be made along with an XRF specifically looking for two trace elements gold and arsenic. Peruvian silver is not identical with Mexico when it comes to the ores available so a modified look at the alloy is needed to make sure it is good.
