Picked up a handful of Lg Cents this weekend at our local coin show.
This was one. Kind of a fun piece. 1855 N-8 R2, Ex Superior Galleries and more "recently" Ex Walter Dudgeon piece. Included a snippet from the Walter Dudgeon middle and late date large cent sale via McCawley and Grellman from 1994.

Grading thoughts on this one?

I'll say AU-58, but just a stab, not my field. Beautiful coin.

I'd agree with both grades as posted in the listing, TPG AU55 (AU58 wouldn't be hard to get to) or EAC 50 full grade

The scratch is very minor and doesn't really detract from the overall amazing appearance of the coin.

Another very lovely pickup, and congrats on this one too!

i have to agree on the assigned grade of AU55 as well. just short of the 58 mark. I think if it had some luster peaking through it have helped push it.

EAC grading is a whole different world.
But as I understand it, value is largely based on ANA grading.
Problem is that ANA grading only takes into account the date and a particularly scarce or rare varieties.
The EAC people refine that, hence they can pick up bargains that we ordinary collectors do know about.

Thanks for the replies! My in hand thoughts are right there with paralyse, I had it at a TPG AU55, EAC50

We'll never know TPG grade though as it will stay raw in my cabinet with the rest of the coppers!

My exact thoughts on both TPG and EAC grade. Very lovely coin
