For 12 bucks and change I thought this was a good buy too. The lighting I think is giving the pic a strange color. G-4 ish?

G-04 sounds right, but appears cleaned.

I think you paid right where I'd have expected it to sell, maybe a bit less. Looks like a fairly decent original circulated example. Even if it's been cleaned, or not, this coin usually sells for $20-$30 in copper dealer "pick" boxes at shows.

the seller had several large cents for sale that all looked orangish in color. He stated that in hand the coins looked brown.

Yes, it's a nice circulated large cent. I don't know if it's been cleaned or not, but I don't see any other major defects.

I should probably choose my words better to avoid confusion since "original" might imply that it hasn't been cleaned.
