Hello everyone, I ran across this 1963 penny which appears to be silver in color. It weighs 3.09g. I've seen 1963 D dime planchet errors, however without a mint mark I believe this is from Philadelphia. Any insight into if this is a dime planchet error or any other information that can be provided would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Looks like a typical plated cent. After the mint.

It has been plated.
A dime planchet is smaller than a cent, so you not have a rim on this cent, also, the edge would show the cladding and copper core.

Part of the design, usually the rim would be cut off actually because a dime planchet is smaller than a penny planchet and the coin would weigh less. Silver dime planchets (made before 1965) weigh 2.5 grams, and copper-nickel clad planchets (made since 1965) weigh 2.27 grams.

In all likelihood, you have a penny that has been plated with silver, pewter, or mercury. chemistry experiments used hot sodium hydroxide solution as an example to plate cents
