I have wanted a Great Britain Maundy coin set since I was a kid and finally got this one from 1941.

Maundy Thursday is the day before Good Friday and three days before Easter. In 1941 Maundy Thursday was on April 10, 1941.

The practice of English kings handing out money to poor people on Maundy Thursday was started by King John (reigned 1199 to 1216) and was made official by Charles II (reigned 1660 to 1685).

The specially struck coins are silver 1, 2, 3, and four pence coins. They were originally struck in sterling silver but from 1920 to 1970 were struck in 50% silver.

The Royal Maundy ceremony takes place every Maundy Thursday at London's Westminster Abbey with the recipients selected by church officials.

Congratulations on your acquisition!

I admit, I had hoped that Charles (being an Old Age Pensioner in his own right!) would have insisted on a grand almsgiving ceremony for his Coronation — which would, among other things, have involved the distribution of great quantities of Maundy money. As it is, his mother's must be awfully common, but his are bound to be rare.

Willie, thank you for educating me about Maundy coins!
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

I note that the images of George V1 on all four coins are not very sharp, for a Maundy series but
don't worry, the master dies for all of the smaller silver denominations of George V1 could have been better.
The obverse image of George V1 on the Australian standard issue 1942 Melbourne Mint silver threepence issue is even worse.

By US standards, Maundy mintages are tiny.
For the year 1941, only 1,253 Maundy sets were produced.

By the reign of George 1V (1820-1830), the reverse of a crowned reverse numeral is considered to be for Maundy coinage only

I have a small collection of about 25 individual Maundy coins of all four denominations, various Monarchs Charles 11 - Elizabeth 2nd, but
not in a one date set.

About 8 of them are holed, so I was able to obtain those examples 'on the cheap'.
