Picked out this 1983-P nickel while roll hunting this afternoon. Specifics on grading would be helpful, since I am still learning the finer points.

AU-58, given the early die state I'd keep it because there were no 1983 mint sets so the supply of higher grade coins is slimmer than typical

Yeah, that bang on the reverse between United and States was a bummer. Most of the '83 strikes I have seen have been soft. This one had the right inclination.

I only asked because it was a 1983. I know there were no uncirculated sets that year, and a quality high-AU or MS coin can be worth keeping. I will stick it in the 82-84 "nice" roll. Maybe in 50 years, my great-grandkids can unpack it and have a decent coin.

I am getting better at grading; my thought was AU-58 before I scrolled down. All the dings take away the eye appeal though.
