Unless it came out of a full mint role, I do not see how anyone could tell the difference between it being an error or PMD.

I don't know, I'm thinking circulation wear because I can see some of the stars on the edge.

It's hard to imagine a dollar coin getting circulated enough to wear away the edge lettering.

Can you also post up images of the full coin, both obverse and reverse?

The last image does have stars showing on the edge, so the coin did at some point have edge lettering all around it..

Thanks - I would have to say that this coin got beat up pretty good in the bags the mint uses to catch the coin as they exit the press.
