NGC has identified several "doubled die" Lincoln Shield cent varieties. Some of these are:

*2009 DDR Formative Years (multiple versions)
* 2014 DDO FS-101
* 2014 DDO VP-101
* 2015 DDO VP-001
* 2019 DDO V-001

Reading the threads on this message board, I got the impression that most of the doubling that collectors report are examples of "machine doubling." Why would NGC certify such coins and not true "double dies" ?

Those ones are true doubled dies. Strong ones like those just aren't reported as often as Machine Doubling.

I agree with Tanman. These are real Doubled Dies.

I don't even understand your question... You're asking how there can be real doubled dies in a world where most of the things people post here are Machine Doubling? I don't think anyone here has ever denied that real doubled dies exist, and many of them do get posted. They're just very rare, and people being mistaken is far more common.

Well, because they (the ones NGC listed) are real doubled dies, and a lot of what gets presented here truly is MD. Doubled Dies are not as common we you would like them to be - which is why they are relatively rare.
They are not like RPM's - which are a dime a dozen (at least in the 50's and 60's.
