As I've been examining current nickels under magnification, I have found many examples of this strange little lump. I have started calling it Jefferson's Doorstop. It's a little bump or line on the floor of the right archway. There is a Variety Vista entry for a full-blown DDR version, but I have seen the doorstop so often that I can't believe it is part of any doubling. The VDDR catalog questions whether the phenomenon appears on a working hub or even a master die. My collage includes images from 2022-P and 2023-P nickels, so the lump isn't contained to one year. It doesn't appear on all nickels, but it does appear on many.

For your consideration, Jefferson's Doorstop:

Greetings, I'm going to go down the Die Chip road on this, based on what you're describing not being on all, but inconsistently on random years and a modest consistency.
It is evident on many coins now sporting such involved/ busy designs that a spot of vulnerability exists in certain locations on designs of coins that most are even a given to be found.
So I vote fore Die Chip. We wait to hear from others now.

The placement and size are very consistent for a die chip. But it's a possibility.

Well, I think that the door hinges are on the right side, so this could be the daily paper that was dropped off..

I like what Dutch-Tigger said, Could be gouge on the Master Die, and it was re-used for the following year as well, maybe?

Can you post up one full reverse image for reference?

daily paper sounds like a good explanation

somethng that common has to be hub or master related, no?

I think that's where the Variety Vista guys were going when they tagged the comment: "More research is needed to determine if this is a doubled Working Hub or possibly a doubled Master Die."

Although their example listed is way more pronounced than just this little bit of metal.

.

This feels like a better explanation over all the other's.
