Hi, everyone.

Just going thru my pennies and noticed a problem with one of them.

It's not cracked, but appears to have an extra bit of copper on it before it was minted.

Is this common?

Hi Steve

Your coin is a Retained struck through scrap and a nice one also !!

Its not extremely common or uncommon,, Check out Bobbys Three Cent piece in the error and variety forum !! another example of the same on a US coin.
