I recently got into coin collecting and was wondering about coin roll boxes. If you search for Canadian commemorative coins on youtube you are bound to see unboxing videos of boxes full of coin rolls.

I have a few questions about this, firstly if I go up to my local bank teller and ask for $200 worth of toonies or loonies, will I receive said coins? If so, do I have to pay extra for a box of coin rolls? Also if you have information you think may help out feel free to tell me, I don't have much experience with this.

As a side note, do you know when the new toonies are set to reach banks?

Thank you!

I have moved this to the Coin Roll Hunting forum because I feel like you will get better assistance here.

If I am wrong, people will let me know.

You should be able to get the $200, some banks may have a cap on the amount that you can get. No, you shouldn't have to pay extra for a box.

Just be polite, and slowly build your relationship with the bank you are using.

CanadianCoinFan, I saw your request. For what it is worth, the CRH forum is not just for US roll hunters, it includes Canadians and others as well. Roll hunting can be seen as its own sub-hobby of coin collecting, which is why we gave it its own spot on CCF.

Here is a long running Canadian CRH topic for you to check out:

We will leave this topic here for a while. If it does not get enough attention, we can move it back to the Canada forum.

I order boxes of coins of various denominations from my local TD branch,,,,,,but I do have a commercial account.
That said generally (in my city BNS) provides bills and coins for the credit unions and the big 5 banks have a couple of large commercial branches (and the main branch)that order the coins for the rest of the branches. Asking the customer service manager politely (and having the funds in your account) will likely result in them ordering them in for you.
