Hello! Just trying to understand what happened to this little fellow found in pocket change. Both images (one obv the other rev) struck on the obverse of another appear horizontally flipped. Thanks for any tips!

Looks like there was glue on the coin with another coin stuck to it and then peeled off leaving an image maybe.

Foreign substance, glue, cupholder coin, two coins on top of each other for a period of time with soda or something on them that dried... try a soak in acetone. imho.

Wait for more experienced members.

That is glue that is on the coin, it is protecting it from toning out as well.
An acetone soak may soften it up to be removed.
Also it looks like it had another 2000 dated coin pressed against it and that created the backwards date behind Lincoln's head.
