i beleave a mad die could be a piece of metal that broke off and got a repunch here is one that I think broke and flipped and then got punched like a spike out from 9 in date

i think on the 9 there is a mark I beleave the chip came from and flipped over and got repunched

found this on wexlers varieties looks almost like mine 1876 50 cent wmpd 001 look at the bottom of 6 in date could be the little spike take a look

ok I posted wrong about mad die. a mad die is a misaligned hammer and anvil die thanks for pointing that out
