Presumably a copy--LOL--but it would be interesting to find out about this type of note

I know nothing about this type of note but here is a link to a site that lists bogus bills

http://www.crutchwilliams.com/Bogus..._Continental

The note in question is located at bottom.

I noticed it also. I believe they did that because you can not read the serial number on the fake notes. But I don't know that for sure.

Check this website out for history of the notes:

http://www.coins.nd.edu/ColCurrency/index.html

What makes me leary about the note in your picture is the fact that you can see the printing from the opposite side show through the paper (When you look at the obverse, you can see the reverse printing show through). Most colonials were printed on paper composed of linen and cotton and were much thicker than the paper used today. The paper should feel coarse to the touch.

Hi ChristinaM-I was 99.9% sure that this item was just a copy but as with us all there's always that 0.1% chance of having an interesting find.
It is ''printed'' onto a material which has a general feel of rough hand made paper but is just too uniform, especially at the edges to be over 200 years old.
The signatures and the serial number are def. printed onto the 'paper'and are not handwritten-they have deliberately been printed faintly, presumably to avoid being an attempt to deceive.
The link that you gave me is very interesting and answers my question about thge origins of the note.

100% sure its a copy...
if a note is original the signatures and serial numbers always have different inks
than the printed note...sorry...but enjoy your COPY of a colonial elephant note from New York..yours is worth less than a dollar and the real thing worth $300-500
