smauggie Valued Member United States 271 Posts	Posted 07/28/2024 12:00 pm I first wish to apologize for the poor quality of the photo. Part of the mylar of the 2x2 insisted on being wrinkled and caused some glare issues. This is a special design Un Centesimo coin from Panama. They were minted in small numbers (if I recall correctly several thousand per year) for a few years in the 1970's and early 80's. They were intended to be sold directly to coin dealers and collectors. 1978 was one of the years the coins were minted, but it had a special addition. On the obverse it has "75 Anniversario" as 1978 was the 75 anniversary of the Republic of Panama. In the mid 1980's though Panama began to have a serious shortage of pennies. As a result many of these special mintage coins were dumpted into general circulation to help with the shortage problem. This is how I acquired this coin, from circulation.
