These are 5 coins I found metal detecting this past weekend.

This is to help those who may not have seen freshly "mined" modern coins that have been in a wet, organic environment.

66C. 2 quarters, 1 each of a dime, a nickel, and a copper-plated zinc cent.

These colors are not from a missing clad layer or two. This is the copper content of the coin migrating to the surface.

I was hoping I might have found my first variety while metal detecting but it wasn't to be. (The 2015 Homestead quarter has a bunch of DDR's as well as "Snow" on the roof, and a "leaky bucket")

BTW- In case my images are too blurry to tell, there is no mint luster. LOL

Ah come on Pete. They all were missing clad layer before they went into the ground.

Thanks guys and gals for taking a gander.
Maybe I'll add some lighter-colored ones as I find them for comparison.

Just trying to save newer members some frustration and time.
These are darker than usual since the ground stays so damp.

I've been toying with trying metal detecting but can't decide on reasonably priced equipment. Any suggestions?

Mike, there is a CCF forum dedicated to metal detecting. You'll get much info by posting your question there.
