So I don't usually bother with UK coins but today I have come across an odd 2016 one pound.
My first instinct is that it's a forgery but compared to another 2016 it's looks almost identical apart from it colour. Any help would be appreciated. Sorry in advance for the picture quality my phone camera didn't like taking a picture of the coin

Hello and

From the photos it's hard to tell if the coin is genuine or a forgery. We'd need larger, closer photos with the micro-lettering that's just inside the rims visible. If this is missing on the coin, that normally means it's a forgery, although it could be a weak strike.

My initial feeling is that the coin is genuine but has environmental damage, maybe from being buried or kept in a damp place. Nickel-brass tends to go dark in such situations.

Thanks for that. I can see the micro lettering around the rim so must just be a battered old coin
