not sure what a "major strike" is relative to coins, that one looks stained

It's been damaged after it left the mint, it's called Post Mint Damage PMD, no extra value, worth 25 cents. Coins can turn different colors depending on the environment they have been in, found in the ground, etc with various shapes sizes of the damaged area. Most get scuffed, scratched, dented in circulation.
