Several months ago, I discussed a 1909 possible matte proof in

https://goccf.com/t/38922

Well finally got time to send to PCGS and here are the results. It's a matte proof OK, but somehow they found it was a PF58 , but I still like it. Some other coins back also. The 3 Leg buffalo was questionable color ?

Overall, happy for my good luck to have these.

Jim

Congrats! The color on the two wheaties is sweet! The '09 mattie is a big win at 58 I'd say. PR58 versus AU58!

Well, there's GREAT news...the 09 is a proof! However, I'm stunned at the grade! Based on your pics, the grade seem harsh IMO. Nonetheless, I'd be proud to own that puppy....you're a lucky guy to even find one! Congrats on the other coins as well....THOSE ARE ALL SUPER SUPER NICE!

Thanks for the link to the old post. I just re-read it and had forgotten all about it.

I blew up the pics in the OP and the only thing I see that could be wear is a little rub on the right wheat stalk, but I can't believe PCGS called that an "impaired" proof!

If you don't want to re-submit it, I'd be happy to take it off your hands for $500.

I was happy that the 09 matte proof didn't have an "altered surface" or "Questionable color". I don't believe it circulated. It seems happy here, so I will let it stay . Thanks for the compliments!

The 55/55 was one of the first varieties I bought from a Reeves mail order sale in the early 80s.
A huge sum of $360. The MS66 1972/72 is one of the best I have seen. I bought it from David Bowers
in the late 80s.

I am curious about everyone else's opinions, but I think that due to the dollar amounts involved, the matte proof might be a prime candidate for resubmission.

It is in my mind. I truly feel after looking at it for a long time, that it was the darkened
areas in the letters ( from grime/toning) that swung the vote to 58. If I did crack and
resubmit, I am sorely temped to try and remove some before resubmitting. But no hurry for
me. Thanks for the comment.
