I'm amazed at how many high value coins are being offered on ebay today, especially gold coins! Just sort the general US coin category by value and you'll see what I'm talking about. I bet people are trying to get rid of their gold before the price plunges another 10%... Though I don't see any justification for the higher than spot premiums on some of the auctions.

Perhaps it's a panic sell off as a result of information someone has received and passed on. Sometimes the information may be from a good source or sometimes it may come from rumours started by someone wanted to cause chaos in the marketplace. Either way, we live in unpredictable economic times that require a lot of knowledge from researching resources before making any major financial decisions. However, having a mix of hard assets such as gold and silver bullion stock along with stock market purchases will eventually make for a healthy future portfolio. Glenn Pinto

Quote:I'm amazed at how many high value coins are being offered on ebay today, especially gold coins! The recent advent of the dirt cheap 30 day buy it now listings is the main culprit. It has lead to massive amounts of overpriced BIN listings clogging up the works. It was a really dumb idea on ebay's part and don't think it will last much longer. People can ask all they want, doesn't mean they'll get it. Bubba can now list his beer can collection at a $50,000 Buy it now for a whole year for less than $5, in the hopes someone will bite and he can replace his 20 year old slip-n-side with an in-ground pool. Hint for ebay > If you're tired of the smelly bum wandering around your bar, raise the draft prices, not cut them by 90%, that will only bring in all his friends too.

A little bit here and there, that's worldwide. And the sellers that list like a hundred separate listings for an identical over priced item... that never sells. I often wondered when they realize how much its costing them!

From ebay's perspective, more sellers means more money, so I will disagree with your prediction.... The smelly old bum will have lots of company in the months ahead. Since the summer is coming, it makes sense to extend seller listings since people won't be indoors and on their computers as often.

Quote:From ebay's perspective, more sellers means more money, On the surface, that would seem true but not necessarily. Bubba's efforts likely costs them money in overhead unless someone buys his collection. ebay makes the real money when items sell not when they list. So from ebay's perspective a much more accurate statement would be "More buying means more money". Trust someone that pays ebay around 10K a year to tell you what the money goes for. Quote: so I will disagree with your prediction You're perfectly entitled to your opinion, but these type listings just keep rolling over and over and over. ebay makes virtually nothing on this stuff if it doesn't sell, in fact it may be a loss. If that bum is driving the mixed drink crowd away, they serve no purpose but to be a nuisance that's costing you money.
