2000D Lincoln Cent- Miniature copper plated wok
(Another first for me)

I found this one in some rather foul rolls of cents from a local bank. There were about 5 solid rolls of cup holder coins that I washed before rerolling so the tellers would still take my cent dumps.

I noticed it was convex/concave like a wok. The more I looked at it the more it intrigued me because it must be PSD .... somehow. It contours to the shape of my index finger at the fingerprints. The contour reminded me of the baseball or moon landing coins.

Maybe it cupped from the zinc oxidizing from all the plating blisters on the obverse or a previous owner got bored with a 5/8" socket and a marble (but I don't see rim damage I would expect to see).

I just thought folks might get a kick out of seeing it.

Enjoy and leave your thoughts if you are so inclined.

There is even a short split in the rim at the lower left corner of the building. I'm sure it's from the moisture penetrating the obverse and causing the zinc to oxidize and expand.

Especially if you're on a reality dating show!

Edit: I'm slow but it finally sunk in.
CF was saying he wasn't ready for a test.

(Someone please give me one more of these! )

Thanks CF.
No chemistry especially if you're on a reality dating show!

Or did you mean there isn't a chemical reaction that can cause this cupping?

I have found lots of zinc coins like that here in Phoenix AZ. I found them on the road or on roofs. My guess is that the extreme heat softened up the cent enough to sag in the middle (kinda like my waist line )

You've found a lot cupped like this?
Thanks. That's intriguing and interesting.
Were the rims on yours uniformly cupped or bent?
I'm not seeing any telltale damage to either side indicating blunt force trauma. LOL

This is the first I've come across one like this and the obverse does seem to be suffering from incomplete plating, which is probably why the obverse is blistering so much.

I wonder if it could be a combination of oxidizing zinc and heat making the obverse expand and cup upward?

Thanks again everyone.
