I am new to this hobby and hope to quickly learn the basics by reading lots of past threads.
My motivation for getting started with coins is likely very different to the majority of people on this forum. With fiat currency having a dubious future, not least with the incumbent central bank digital currency, I believe collecting coins, especially those containing silver, is a way of preserving wealth, at least it will be a way of acquiring goods or services outside of the digital framework.
My first purchase was a +1kg collection of mixed quality silver coins from various countries (80% British) and I paid spot for them. As I examined the coins individually under a LED spyglass I quickly became intrigued with the research aspects and the monetary value of the coins became less important.
In the 200 or so coins there were some interesting finds like a 1937 2 reichsmark coin, one can't help but wonder the tales that coin could tell! Another is a 1696knig William 3rd crown in very poor condition with no date but still interesting none the less.
Anyway pleased to meet you.

Pastorius :- to the CCF !You may well be right about silver coins, provided that you do careful price research first, before making every purchase. In the last three years, the only things that have made a 'paper' profit for me are 1. my house, (paid off 34 years ago), and 2. my coin collection. Inflation has cancered away at almost every other investment.

It's nice to see someone else from the UK on here - this is a very interesting forum, with a wealth of useful info.
