This is the second part of my Springfield Lincoln Bicentennial adventures, the first part can be found in the commem forum. I was originally hoping that the US Mint would have a release event for the new cents, but alas, it was not meant to be. However, the US Postal Service held a special cancellation ceremony for the newly issued Lincoln stamps at the Old State Capitol. I came up with the bloody brilliant idea of combining the new stamps with $5 bills to create a souvenir similar to the First day of Issue 1976 series $2s.

I used crisp consecutive $5s but unfortunately I could not get the new purple design in time. I took the opportunity to create three sets and many of the people who saw what I was doing were quite jealous The downside was the fact that it took over 20 minutes for the ink to dry and there are a couple smudges as a result.
