this is a dollar size well made -machined? I have been trying to get info on for a long time. pressing on the front at the top opens the hinged very thin front cover to allow storing of stamps , or?other. Non magnetic , looks like silver. Help appreciated. Would it be classed as a love token? Am thinking of selling in future.

A "love token" is normally a defaced coin; I think this item is more a small antique / collectable rather than a love token or any other kind of numismatic item - I don't see any evidence that it was ever a coin.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

G'day, interesting piece.
I collect French coins, and I've seen some similar items, made from coins, upto about 1870.
So, without claiming any expertize, I think that is the era in which there were popular.
Secondly, I think your first pic is upside-down, and the monogram is "AS".
My next guess is this: ife slot indeed accommodates a U.S. 2-cent stamp, then ask yourself in which era was it that 0.02 was the "standard" rate of postage ? I suspect that your piece dates from then.
Regarding selling: I have no idea what this might fetch.
The few comparable items that have seen have gone for wildly varying prices. I think the trick is to correctly describe it, so that it is revealed by the greatest number of searches.

Hey ; I've done really good pics now and would send them via email to anyone that would care to see them. The stamp engraving must have some artistic interpretation as it is only close to some in the 1890's as far as I can see., but the stamps fit well.
Appears to be silver to me. Thanks for responses. w.s.
