Hi,

Nice forum - I have a one dollar bill that I found in my late mother's belongings while cleaning out her home. The bill is from the 1990's but she must have seen the error and saved it. I also have some coins and will post for info about those at another time.

I would appreciate any information about the dollar bill. Any idea what type of error this is? Hopefully the image came through. If not it can be seen at

Thanks!

Yup, it's definitely an error. I think this would be a ink rub? error. I don't know the name, but this most likely happened when the ink was still wet, and it was scraped against something that took off that part of the wet ink.

Currency inking errors are best examined in-hand for authentication. With that said, it does appear to be an inking error of some sort but I have never seen one with such an irregular pattern Perhaps something was on the currency stock that caused the ink to not adhere, but that is just a semi-educated guess...
