I have some 1000 coin mint-sealed bags. I just read that this is the worst way to store bulk coins and that they should be put in tubes.

I'm thinking the value drops by about 90% once I open the bag. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to store these for future generations?
Thank you

I am eager to hear what everyone has to say on this subject also. I know everyone likes knowing they are the first ones that have ever sorted through a hoard of coins and them being in the bags would give them that satisfaction but I am not sure what would be the best way to store them. I will patiently await a responce with you on this one

I am assuming you are speaking of mint-sealed bags- The fabric in these will in time create some problems for your coins. I have in my earlier years gone through many bags- and left some in- Well, I can tell you- Those that I ran through a coin counter and wrapped in bank rolls then placed in air tight 50mm WW11 AMMO boxes --picked up at war surplus stores- has proven to be my best storage. I have opened up some rolls that were put away 45 years ago- and they still have that brilliance- You won't always get that in the bags because air can get through- If your only concern is for bullion type coins- then no problem- you still have the intrinsic value- My Two Cents worth--There are other solutions probably as good. Airtight wont spoil anything, The chemicals or alloys on the coins wont react with damp air.
