Found an interesting wrinkle while CRH my usual $20 of nickels this week. Last week, I found a 2019-P 5c WDDR-010 in an earlier die state than the Wexler listing on Brian's Variety Coins. This week, I found what appears to be the same variety in a later die state.
I have put the three coins side by side: Wexler listing, EDS, LDS. You can see that the die is starting to age. The S in Pluribus has a deterioration halo moving rimward. The hornets nest crack on the side of Monticello is slightly more advanced than the Wexler listing, and has lost a sizable die chip. Unlike the EDS coin, the LDS now has the pronounced die gouges between the W and E of We.
I find it quite interesting to have two different die states of the same WDDR nickel. That opens the possibility of examining and comparing the two coins for other subtle differences and similarities, particularly the line-in-door feature itself.
