Hi all,
I have a 1797 Cartwheel penny that I'm uncertain as to the variety. Could anyone identify which type and possibly post an image showing the difference between the 2 types. I would rate the coin as F so hopefully not too toast for ID.

Thanks

This is the 10 leaf variety (type 1). The way to tell when the leaves in the wreath are worn is by the ribbon at the back of George's head. The outermost tip points down in the 10 leaf and outwards in the 11 leaf.
See https://headsntails14.wordpress.com...ii-obverses/ for pictures and a more detailed description.
By the way, this site is brilliant for the identification of all GB penny varieties.

Thanks Paddy. As with Safaga, I too have bookmarked the excellent you provided. I hope that it does not disappear over time.

Paddy is quite correct, ten leaves.
Re. grade: if you're using the Brit system the coin is below fine.

Yes, VG. I'm sure it's a better grade than G.
