Scarce 1824/2 Capped Bust Dime, Jr-2 Variety - Grading Opinions Sought.

It is difficult to capture good pictures of this dime - my apologies in advance for the poor quality of these images.

The 1824/2 JR-2 is scarce, rarity 5+ with as few as 33 examples known, most of them in low grades, below VG, and impaired. Best known is an EF40.

Only two varieties are known for this year, both sharing the same obverse.
According to PCGS this is the way to distinguish the common JR-1 from the JR-2.

JR-1: Flat top 1 in the denomination, ERI of AMERICA separated

JR-2: Pointed top 1; ERI joined.

How would you grade this (very crusty) example of JR-2?

I am curious to see what you all think.

weak struck coins are always a crap shoot with TPG's. depending on who looks at it and how well versed in the series they are. if I was sitting in a seat there i'd call it VF35 less strike issues netting VF30. sharp date and reverse lettering. I think they straight graded it. curious to see what they said

Than you for your opinions - @panzaldi hat it right.

PCGS straigth-graded this coin, VG10.

It does look better in-hand than on my pics, but it is darkly toned which probably makes it look a bit rough.

agree with the straight grade. disagree with the lowball grade. another instance where these people whack coins to heavily for strike issues
