F12-15, but the Obverse damage adversely affects the coin. I think that it's a gouge-type damage, but I'd have some damage, too, if I was 140+ years old.
It's possible it's a lamination problem but feels just as likely something got hammered into it at some point and indented the obverse in spots. You can follow the regular but irregular line through the forehead, the hair and the bun and see potential indents on both sides of the bust. I'm going to go with F details for something long and perhaps narrow being hammered or pressed into it many years ago.
25centpiece2 Well worn, well travelled wide 0 quarter. As okiecoiner states: "... the Obverse damage adversely affects the coin." Still, a coin I would welcome to my collection. (Charlton 2020: F-12, $550.00)
Thanks for the replies and welcomes. There is a lot going on with this one and I considered the lamination issue. I guess I will know more with it in-hand. Regardless, I like the look of this coin and it will fit my "working man's" 25 cent silver collection. I have taken a ten year break from collecting but with only four more coins to find( not including every error and variety), I am back into it. Thanks again.
