Was there an official 2009 Men's Hockey coloured quarter produced on the non-coloured coin instead of the knurled coin? Or was the colour added to the wrong coin type?
All of the coloured Men's Hockey quarters I have seen have the knurling behind the red colour (photo 2, right side).
The left coloured coin doesn't have the knurling and looks the same as the non-coloured version (photo 3).

The knurling is part of the painting process.
If you soak both of your colored coins in acetone the result will be two more non-colored coins.

There is a third version of this coin, came in a 3 coin set with the Klassen and Womens hockey. This set has the colour painted on, not printed. They are nice. You should be able to find them.

The mint is still trying to work out the kinks in colored coins to, apparently, no luck. They should give up except for their speimen special commems that never get in someone's pocket. I REALLY think that they should give up because the workmanship and QC really suck on them.

Thanks loonielewy I wasn't aware that there was a different "scarce" enameled/painted on version of this coin without the knurling.

I found more information on the RCM website.
Looks like you could get them two ways:
-In the Olympic Medals Moments (2010) Special Edition
Uncirculated Set
-"Whether acquired in this set or in circulation, it's important to know coloured Olympic Medals Moments coins are scarce.
Miss out on this ultimate Winter Olympic Medals souvenir and the only way to own all three Winter Olympic Medals coloured quarters becomes challenging. That's right - for each of the three Olympic MedalsMoments quarters, 22 million coins will enter circulation. BUT of those 22 million coins, only 3 million Olympic Medals Moments will be in colour - and each one will only be found, by chance, in random rolls distributed throughout this great nation".

I found it roll hunting so either someone broke up a set or it was one of the 3 million "by chance" coins inserted in random rolls.

The 3 million you refer to is the standard circulation coins with colour printed, not painted. 1 million of each I believe.

That's a nice find from CRH.

There are raised 2 and incused 2 versions as well.
