I feel like I am beating this topic to death, but I still haven't gotten squared away with SMS hub doubling. The Wexler catalog lists hub/series doubling for multiple years, but often it doesn't have an entry or images.

Is hair doubling under the R part of WHDO/WSDO doubling for particular hubs? Which star splits on the reverse are part of the WHDR/WSDR?

Is there a reference book that will clear up my confusion? I know that Mr. Wexler and Dr. Wiles both wrote Kennedy doubled die guides. Are those more complete than WDD/VV?

In going through the 1965 50c SMS TrueView catalog on PCGS, I have only found one or two coins with that same pattern of doubling.

Maybe Tan or Atrox could help you fast. I will look for my notes for this matter. By my recall the Hub Doubbling was more the face, ear and back of the head. The hears coul be from reengraving for the new series 65-67. From 68 other observe was in place.

I think it's possible that the coin matches what Variety Vista lists as DDO-001. It doesn't have the scratching on the lower bust that I can see. It does have a super thin spread on the bottom of T and Y.

That doesn't necessarily answer the question of whether the Wexler listings disqualified that DDO as hub or series doubling.

Silviosi, I appreciate that. =) For what it's worth, there might be some doubling on the hair on the back of the head. It's hard to tell through the cellophane on an ebay picture.
