In 2009 there has been a dramatic decrease in the production in quarters with D.C. at 172,400,000 and Puerto rico at 139,200,000. My question is, will these quarters increase in value over time. I know that the State Quarters are said not to increase much, but with the lower production figures, do you think that the Territory quarters will increase, or is there to many collectores holding on to them after the 50 State Quarter Series? Thanks

over 100 Million is still a lot of coins...don't see them going for much of a premium over states...IMHO

It's not so much the lower mintages, but the newfound difficulties this year in obtaining BU Rolls at face value from banks or even finding them in circulation, that would argue for keeping them. 1. Slow economy 2. Massive numbers of coins returning to the Federal Reserve (aka the 'backwash' effect) 3. Armored car services now charging higher premiums for banks to order boxes of all-new coins (which leads to the new coins being mixed in with older coins, making it much harder to obtain BU rolls or boxes). 4. Have you seen any 2009 coins in circulation? It's April, and from circulation I've found two Log Cabin Cents, two D.C. Quarters, several Harrison Dollars and no 2009 Nickels or Dimes (and this is from a guy who pays in cash for all typical in-person purchases). I've found four wheat Cents from circulation in the same space of time that it took to find the two 2009 Log Cabin Cents! 5. Mint Coin Rolls have been selling like hotcakes free beer this year, due to the difficulties in finding 2009 BU bank rolls as described above. Go to ebay and search "LP1", if you dare!

All of your above points are true, but they are all only going to delay when those 2 million rolls go out, not stop them altogether. I see those new log cabin cents as a major bubble and when it bursts, you don't want to be the guy who has 1000 rolls he bought for $5 each.

I found a D.C. Qtr. in ciculation the other day.....I guess that means I'll have to buy another album and get "that" one going too now @#^*&@$%*@*# !I thought I would be "done" with "quarters" after "the States" we're finally finished !....... ( only 4 or 5 more "P's" and that P & D album is complete baby !) Guess I'll just go buy a folder and keep em' going......it's not a question of "why" really .....is it ?.......More of a question as to "why not" ? ......

Of course there will be some sort of "bubble"....there always is....then things level off....or go back down. But with my 3 two roll Sets of these Lincolns......I'm QUITE CONFIDENT that there will be a nice premium on these for the rest of time !...Yeah....it may not be anywhere close to $100.00.....but that's fine with me. But who really knows though .......you put a couple of decades of time on something like this.........it might climb "back up" to the numbers we're seeing now !.... If anyone is selling crystal balls....... I'LL BUY 2 OF THEM !....NAME YOUR PRICE !....

So do you think that the production of upcomming issues will decrease in production thus creating semi-key dates?

The 2009 P mint Lincoln 1st design has the lowest mintage numbers since the 1950's......so yeah maybe more and more (I hope)
I DID NOTICE TODAY THAT THE MINT IS "SOLD OUT" OF THE 2009 D.C. QUARTER TWO ROLLS SET. Not sure if that's a low mintage or just collector demand or both.

As far as that goes, I've been trying to put a roll of 2008 nickels together from circulation-not BU or anything, just common circulated coins. After almost two boxes worth of searching, I have a roll each of all four of the "Western Journey" series, but still do not have a full roll of 2008s.

I DID NOTICE TODAY THAT THE MINT IS "SOLD OUT" OF THE 2009 D.C. QUARTER TWO ROLLS SET The DC Quarter is sold out because The Puerto Rico has Been Released. They did it with the State Quarters also when 1 is released the previous is not available. They do the same with most other products also, 2008 proof sets stop when 2009 comes out etc. of course some items do sell out prior to the new release such as 2008 proof set did, but silver set is still available until 2009 silver is released

Quote: nod2003: "...they are all only going to delay when those 2 million rolls go out, not stop them altogether." Yes, the individual coins will come out eventually, but not almost all in BU rolls as in years past (up to 2008). The catch is, most will be mixed in with older coins and rolled into mixed circulated rolls, rather than coming out almost all in BU rolls, because of the armored car companies' new surcharges. These kind of surcharges are already making BU rolls of new coins at banks an 'endangered species'. This is why the Mint bags and rolls of 2009 coins are selling very quickly! Few collectors have been able to get BU rolls of any 2009 coins at banks.
