Long time reader...first time poster...got back into the "passion" after many years since one of my brothers and me would take the bus for a quarter into the city from the ( once) small town we grew up in, back in the 70's to Provincial Coins in Hamilton! Still have some of the BU pennies we would pick up before we slid over to the Crystal Palace to drop a few bucks on pinball. Gramps died at 96 a few years ago (WWII vet from the greatest generation...thank you for your service!) and out of 22 grand kids and 32 great grandkids, I got a bunch of his stuff. Had an old "shinplaster" from when he was a kid in the 30's he kept in his journal. Got me back into it. Building a collection to pass to my own kids who are too busy on their iPhone most of the time but they have shown some interest so I'll keep encouraging them. Been teaching Canadian history for 30 years, and students love to hear things about coins when I make the connections and bring in some for them to see. I collect Canadian decimal, and consider myself to be more of a completionist but lately have been adding mostly TPG coins from auctions and shows. My better half makes the occasional comment about my spending habits, to which I respond..."when you grow enough feet to fit the 150 pairs of shoes you own, then we'll talk, lol... Glad to join, and thanks for having me. I love the site and the endless reading and information available...especially when no one in the house wants to talk to me, save for my daughter's cat, who usually just wants food!!!

,nice read. Maybe you and your kids could start a "coin" night? Everyone gets together and brings some coin folders and coins with them and search for the ones they need to fill a folder. All done as a group gathering. Just an idea. I hope you enjoy our great forum and try to get some family or friends to join us. John1

Interesting intro @Bucsfan! Quote: Had an old "shinplaster" from when he was a kid in the 30's he kept in his journal. Got me back into it. Does that mean you have some Dominion of Canada banknotes? Hope you continue to post on this forum & keep active in the hobby! to CCF

@walk2dwater I only wish. The 25 cent note was from his days as a paper boy , I think. I got a bunch of 1954 issue ones and twos and a five, but not worth much really except the memory. He used to tell me about his first job in a glove factory where he made 7cents an hour, just before the war. too bad there wasn't a couple of '36 dot cents in the tobacco can (Players-Navy Cut. roll your own!) as well&

Our grandpa gave my older brother (who passed the paper route to me) those Players tobacco cans filled with silver dimes & quarters + King George nickels. He had such a great collection (mostly silver) that I decided I better turn to paper (couldn't compete with his shiny & tarnished discs!) Imagine 7 cents an hour! Hope you post some of your 1954 notes!
