A friend has an 8 Escudos 1753 So J (Chile, Ferdinand VI)the subject coin which has an obvious minting flaw. In researching this coin I learned about Carlos Jara an author and expert on the Santiago Chille Mint, which minted the subject coin. I've spent hours trying to find a means of contacting Mr. Jara, but no success. I believe he has participated in Coin Community previously, and hope that a member here can help me contact Mr.Jara. I've located a similar coin sold at auction in 2014 which has the same casting flaw, so there is a population of this coin. The flaw results in extra gold being added to each coin. Obviously such a flow would be promptly remedied upon discovery by the mint, so I suspect this flawed coin is relatively rare. I'm also interested in input from members here that are knowledgeable about this coin. I just joined Coin Community, and I'm not studied in numismatics, so please be patient .
