Congratulations on getting your coins Thad. I wonder how the ANACS graded cents would compare to the PCGS MS67's being sold in Coin World. For the price the HSN deal was still pretty good.

Hey, thanks to a very nice person I had quite a few rolls to look through!

The one that went into my collection was nearly hit-free. It's far better than either of the two slabbed 67's. The D coin has a "cat scratch" on it! There's 4 light scrathes in the main (right) obverse field and a couple hits on the portrait, one fairly deep. The one thing I give them is the lack of black spots, they are both fairly clean for this issue. To me it's as if they were simply graded on that and not the hits.

Now...let's think about how HSN did this. They shipped thousands of orders, the auto ship is sold out. I don't think that ANACS would pick out the high grades from mass numbers of rolls. It would make sense that HSN put people in a room, instructed them and they cherry picked for hours on end. The other intresting point is how they negotiated these coins from the mint. Obviously, some sort of deal was worked out by somebody slick from HSN. All I can say....the price was right!

I would REALLY like to know about these "dealings" going on, which maybe aren't "secret" or "illegal"....just purposely unknown.... but how and why the Mint is making things available through distributers "dealers" FIRST, and THEN the common public shouldn't be a minor secondary issue for them...(like with Silver Bullion Eagles)...oh....nevermind.....I know.....it's all about the best financial plan for "them" and not "our" best interests right ?
Whatever gets people the highest profits/wages/benefits from top to bottom....then the "consumer" can pay the outrageous high price for the finished offered product when it's finally available !
Uh Ohh.......I feel another topic hijack and "rant" coming on....I better stop !.....

When I was watching the guy on HSN talk about these one evening, he said that they went through over a million coins to get enough 67's to offer this program. I thought I heard him say that of the million they went thru that MS-67 was the highest grade found.

They got ONE MILLION Cents ?......MAN !.....(I bet they got MUCH more than that too, for "future sales")..So just what kind of deal DID they get ?.....and from whom exactly ? What were the details of this business transaction ? How much money was made ? How much money will be made ? And did it hurt "our" accessibility to them ? Did it allow a "price fix" by only one entity ? Or even by two or three ?
Questions and curiosities......

The guy talking about this was (I believe) Mike Mezack:

Hsn-Lincoln-Cent-Program

He's on a thing called CSN also but he sometimes teams up with the other guy - Allan Skantz - on HSN:

Hsn-Lincoln-Cent-Program

The basic formula seems to be that Mike talks up the deals and then Allan jumps in a says "hey, you should listen to this".

Yup !.......These two re-wrote the book on "Snake Oil Salesmen" for the new millenium !
The art of "used car salesman" tactics are put to amazing use by these gentlemen !
It IS incredible to watch them in action.......and their success in selling their overpriced coins to the public is incredible to behold !
They probably made millions JUST ON THE Statehood Quarters ALONE !
Their Uncirculated materials
Their Proof materials
Their Silver Proof materials
Their Gold Plated materials
Their Platinum Plated materials
Their Graded/Slabbed materials
Their graded coin tube materials
Their "special arrangement" materials
Their "completed" Classic coin folders and/or albums of various denominations
It's just all quite a bit to take in.......especially if you're aren't pre-armed with "current fair pricing knowledge" before you decide to watch the program !

Been traveling and just got home and opened up my shipment. I'd have to agree with BadThad. Not only was the grading hasty, so was the packaging. The ANACS label is crooked on one and the coins in the rolls look better than the slabs. However, they did send two sets of P & D slabs. I think I was only supposed to get one, so I like that mistake.
